    Global Business Association welcomes

Dr. Gil Latz, Vice Provost for Global Strategies and International Affairs

"Contemporary Global Business in Historical Perspective: Japan’s Shibusawa Eiichi, Entrepreneur and Philanthropist"

In a 2015 survey of US business leaders, over three-quarters of respondents identified intercultural skills and understanding of societies and cultures outside the U.S as an essential skill for college graduates (Employer Priorities for the Most Important College Learning, Association of American Colleges and Universities).

As an example of how to address this national need, Dr. Latz focuses on Shibusawa Eiichi (1840-1931), widely recognized today as the father of Japanese capitalism.  Case study analysis of Shibusawa is of value to understanding Japan’s emergence as an industrial power in comparative global perspective. It also has bearing on Ohio State’s revision of its General Education requirements as well as ongoing formulation of the university’s International Strategic Plan, led by the Office of International Affairs and the Office of Strategy Management.
